Effortless, stylish and with a touch of Parisian chic, we love using a headscarf in our Summer hairstyles. Not only is it an easy way to accessorize an outfit, it’s also the perfect way to keep your hair up and help you cool down during sunny days.
To celebrate the new the Bb Curl Collection from Bumble and Bumble, we popped down to the Bumble and Bumble salon to learn the quickest and easiest way to style a headscarf, step by step. Bumble and Bumble’s National Education Manager, Mark Coates, shared his expertise with us as he showed us how to create this fashion forward look with the help of one of our beautiful Lookfantastic Beauty Ambassadors, Lesley of Fresh Lengths.
Watch our full video tutorial or read the steps below. Plus, if your hair isn’t as tightly curled as Lesley’s or you prefer to wear your hair straight, you can still follow these steps with our top tips and adjustments below.
STEP 1.
Prep your hair ready for the look.
Curly girls can add definition and control with the Bb Curl Re-Style/Pre-style Primer – this helps to get your hair ready for any products you might use later. For straight locks, add some texture and wave with the Bb Surf Infusion Spray – this will add volume for your hair to give the scarf some more grip.
STEP 2.
Take your scarf and roll it up so that you give yourself the longest possible material to work with. Once rolled, place it under your hair at the nape of your neck so that it is comfortable. Then just pull the ends up to the top of your head and tie on top of your head (just behind your fringe) to secure.
STEP 3.
Pull the ends down under the hair again and tie once more underneath your hair to secure the placement of the scarf. For fine or straight hair, you can repeat this step a few more times until the scarf feels fixed in place. When you’re happy that the headscarf feels snug and secure, wrap the ends back up to the top and tie into a bow.
STEP 4.
Finish the look by fixing your fringe or adding texture by pushing up some volume around where the top of the scarf is tied; to hold in place, we like to use the Cityswept Finish Spray which is perfect for those wanting to create a street-styled look without the crispiness associated with normal hairsprays. Style your hair around the scarf by pulling little pieces of hair out at the front for that relaxed, effortless feel.
Then voila, you’re done!
