With the launch of Illamasqua’s Extinct collection, we asked their lead makeup artist Zoe to create a step-by-step Halloween makeup tutorial. This is how to perfect that vampy makeup look.
The Inspiration
Halloween and Autumn are the perfect moment to go a little darker with your makeup. We’re thinking deep burgundy lips, strong brows and smoky eyes; it is the perfect dramatic look for those dark nights.
Choosing your Halloween makeup look can be difficult though. Not everyone wants to go over the top with fake blood and white faces, so we’ve come up with the perfect 2 phase look for Halloween with a difference.
We’re making it easy with our exclusive Vampy Chic beauty bundle, containing the new Demise eyeshadow palette, the cult Gel Sculpt contour and beautiful berry red Glamore lipstick in Vampette.
First, go vampy with the ultimate wearable dark lip and eye. Then, if you want to take your Halloween look further, we’re showing you how to ramp it up until you’re ready to say trick or treat!

The Step-by-Step Vampy Halloween Look
From autumnal berries to vampy chic. Whichever final look you want, follow Zoe’s step by step to try it yourself.
1.
Start with your base
Prep your base for a flawless look. Zoe used the Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer to plump and even out the skin, before using the Skin Base Foundation.
It gives a medium to full coverage finish and the shades can all be blended for the perfect match. If you want a little drama for your look, opt for a tone slightly paler than your usual. 2.
The perfect black smoky eye
For the base of the eye look, Zoe used the Sketch Stick in Hades, applying to the centre of the lid and blending out with a shadow brush.
Use the shade Lost from the Demise palette to highlight just under the browbone, softening the edges and adding dimension.
Finish everything on the eyes off with a coat of Masquara Gain on the upper and lower lashes.
3.
Add definition with contouring
A vampy look needs a little bit of extra definition. We are in love with the Gel Sculpt from Illamasqua. Just swipe the stick under the cheekbones and blend out- the formula gives a beautiful sheer finish that looks just like natural shadow.
Add under the jawline too if you like and then finish everything off with some highlighter along the tops of the cheekbones. Zoe used the cream highlighter in Gleam for beautiful radiance. 4.
The vampy berry lip
The finishing touch is the lipstick. Zoe used one of the Glamore lipsticks in the shade Vampette- it looks almost black in the bullet but is actually a rich berry that can be built up for a dramatic look or dabbed on for a wine stain flush.
Zoe applied with a lip brush, building the colour from the centre of the lips out.
This is perfect for a sophisticated vampy look, but if you feel like going a little more Halloween, then carry on with our steps! 5.
Add extra drama to the eyes
For a bit of a witchy look, Zoe ramped up the eyeshadow. Using Interitus from the Demise palette, drag the shadow out towards the cheekbones and onto the cheeks around the eyes.
Under the eyes, she then added Gimp, the rich blue-black from the Demise palette, blending out to define the eyes. 6.
Use liner a little differently
For a little unexpected touch of colour, Zoe used the new Quixotic gel liner from the Extinct collection; it is a deep emerald green with a touch of iridescence.
Line the waterline with the gel liner, before dotting and speckling it around the eyes, in a v-shape up towards the temples and cheekbones.
Once the gel liner has set, then brush Wilt from the Demise palette softly around the eyes for extra dimension. 7.
Mattify and darken the lips
The finishing touch was using the matte lip liquid in Exosceleton over the top of Vampette.
Apply from the centre of the lip out, so that you have a plump, bold looking lip. The formula gives a rich, velvety finish that looks just the right side of Morticia Adams.
Voila, you’re ready to wow everyone this Halloween!
